1 bedroom in 3 bed/2 bath duplex (Capitol Hill) $575 1200sqft
June 17, 2012 in Seattle
Greetings! We are looking for a roommate starting ASAP (date flexible) through the end of September (also somewhat flexible) with possibility to stay on much longer. One of us is moving to LA mid-August, so rent ($1725 plus utilities) would be divided in quarters at first and thirds later, and of course pro-rated. One or two of us will be out of town for almost the whole summer before that, so it will be more like living with 1 or two other people. That may sound complex, but I promise it’s not, and we’d be happy to discuss our scheduling details! We have wifi set up, and basic cable. Heat is gas forced air, but generally not needed during the summer. The landlady (Sarah) is really low key and most interested in getting rent on time. She does require a $25 credit check from an independent company, but the process is super easy. She was very quick to respond when we had a problem, which was easily resolved.
The House:
There is a cute front lawn area, and just enough room around the side and back for bikes and grilling. The living room isn’t huge, but it has a nice feeling with good light, TV (we have a 40 in flat screen and Bose surround sound), and hanging out. The eat-in kitchen has a gas stove, dishwasher, and fridge with built-in water filter. The upstairs bedroom is shared by two of us (we’re a couple) and one of the downstairs bedrooms has the other roommate. He also uses the smaller, downstairs bathroom. The larger, upstairs bathroom would be for you to use because it has more storage and because one or both of its current users will be gone most of the time. The second downstairs bedroom would be yours. It has two windows, one small, one large, a closet (the door is missing), and carpet. It’s painted burnt orange (you can paint it if you’d like). There’s also some storage (great for bikes!), and a laundry area with front-loading washer and dryer that are only a year old.
The Neighborhood:
The place itself is on 27th and Olive, straddling lower Capitol Hill, North Central District, South Madison Park, and West Madrona. The 48, 8, 43, and 11 are all within an easy walk. There’s also a Y, Safeway, Madison Market, and Trader Joes, post office, liquor store, clothing boutiques, fine dining, and Essential Bakery Cafe nearby. It’s also only about 20 min walk to Capitol Hill bars, Molly Moon’s Ice Cream, Volunteer Park, Bobby Morris Playfield, several music venues, and the Arboretum. This time of year there are Fri and Sun farmers’ markets too. There’s ample street parking 95% of the time right in front (no permit needed), but on the rare occasion that someone on the block is having a party, there’s parking just across Olive.
The People:
We are in our late twenties, “young professionals”. Morgan is a nanny and works a variety of hours, though often nights and/or weekends. He went to the UW, wants to be a physical therapist, and volunteers teaching Parkour to kids. I (Sara) do admin and sales for a retail store and tend to work during the day or early evening. I’m a dancer and am moving mid-August to start a PhD at UCLA. Jorge is a Sephora specialist who works super hard and long hours. We’re a pretty easy-going bunch who get along well, and enjoy a relaxed attitude around the house. We have a few people over sometimes, but no big parties. We definitely clean regularly, but we’re not super anal and will sometimes leave dinner dishes until the next morning. We’re most interested in trusting one another to take mutual care of the space and other peoples’ things, as well as respect one another’s privacy.
You… What we’re most excited to find is someone who wants a comfortable living environment that is enjoyed with ease. We don’t have to be best friends or agree on everything, but respect and communication are key. We look forward to meeting you!
